26th of February at DPO House
Datuk Darul Webber, Secretary General of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) spoke about boosting the European industry commitment to 100% sustainable palm oil.
He explained that RSPO is the only multi-stakeholder organization with a global reach that is exclusively focused on making sustainable palm oil the norm with over 2000 members globally that represent 40% of the palm oil industry, covering all sectors of the global commodity supply chain.
Traceability issues were discussed and stats on the adoption rate of sustainable palm oil in European countries were presented amongst other key topics. An open discussion took place after the talk on how certain governments were supporting sustainable palm oil and how European companies in Malaysia could better support or assist in making sustainable palm oil the norm globally.
Darrel Webber joined the RSPO as Secretary General in January 2011, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His last position was Senior Associate of Global Sustainability Associates, a role which required him to provide senior counsel to companies and organisations about agricultural development (including oil palm).
Prior to that, he was Senior Manager Palm Oil Sector Engagement at WWF-International and regional manager for companies such as Permanis Sandilands Sdn. Bhd. and Shell Malaysia Ltd. From 2007 until 2009, Darrel Webber was a RSPO Executive Board Member representing the Environmental NGOs constituent through his position at WWF International.
Darrel was also actively involved in the initial discussions and development of the RSPO Principles & Criteria. Darrel speaks in numerous thought leadership forums and conferences all around the world on sustainability.
